Editing from Edgar Wright

As stated before, Edgar Wright is one of my favorite directors. His film Shaun of the Dead is a direct inspiration for my Foundation Portfolio so as the editor, I wanted to see how he edits his films. This video I found goes over the various editing techniques Edgar Wright utilizes to make his films energetic.

First, the transitions are usually quick and are planned to keep the momentum going from scene to scene. Wright also employs match cuts to transition between the passage of time.

Second, and most recognizable, is the matching of actions to music. What I do know is that this technique is called Mickey Mousing which I find amazing and I really want to implement this technique in my film.

This scene from Shaun of the Dead is a classic, and perfectly shows how Wright Mickey Mouses his films. Now obviously I won't make my characters move in accordance to Queen in the first two minutes of a film but the technique itself will no doubt be attempted.
