1d) Distance

Difficulties I faced were trying to figure out if the shot I was making shown any real character, conflict or development. The height on was particularly difficult as my mind is still trying to learn how camera height gives insight to those three narrative devices. I think distance was the easiest one to take mainly because of the character I chose. Martian Manhunter is a character that often struggles with loneliness so an extreme long shot to me was a no brainer. Also I had no manual control over the focus of the camera which frustrated me. It especially annoyed me with the camera height shot as the subject I wanted in focus wouldn't register to the automatic setting. The point was to have him on the ground when the height would have captured a full body lego in full to show his drunkenness and idiocrasy. I guess my vision was too out there for my robot camera operator to comprehend. I think my main problem was that for me at least, just camera position was not enough for me to show what I wanted to show to the audience about the characters or conflict or development. The setting of my room doesn't really help with try to see what is what. Except for maybe the angle photo but that's because there's not anything to not understand about the Justice League. The level shot for example, I see taking place in a bar which would help a lot with showing character. Overall, it was a great excersice in usuing camera position but it also leaves wanting to experiment with how you combine with mise en scene.

2d. Frontality
I only really had some issues with the last two still photos. For the first two stills, I quickly came up with the idea for my bed to be split in half, one cluttered and one empty to create contrast, while the green snake, in my mind, would obviously pop in contrast to the red of my blanket making use of color. With still 2c, I had to think about what two things I would photograph that had the right amount of difference in size so that the bigger figure would take precedence but not overshadow the smaller figure in the eye of the viewer. The frontality caused a bit more issues. I actually took multiple photos before l decided on the one chosen for quite a few reasons.  First, the placement of the camera was too far away for me and got the entire group with no emphasis on any of the Funko pops. The placement of the Funko pops was also too ensemble like and didn’t bring in the focus to the one in front as much as I wanted it to. So, what I did was change the placement of the funk pops so that the middle one was more up front than it was before, and bring the camera more close to focus on that specific Funko pop to make it more clear that I was utilizing frontality. Overall, my experience with mise en scene was fun and enjoyable, it was interesting to see how I liked to utilize the different aspects of it.

Rule of Thirds

 Still

The Nightmare Before Christmas, 1993
The snowflake is aligned with the left vertical hotspot to bring our attention to it. Jack, the protagonist, is placed along the right vertical hotspot with his head in the center. This marks an important place in the plot where Jack and the audience discover snow and then Christmas Town.

The photo above conveys attraction because of the proximity the figures
have with each other on the left vertical line and they are facing towards each other. They are also holding hands as much as a lego can.

Hello World

Alice in Chains my favorite band

The Universal Monsters

Hello world, my name is Milo Montoya and this is my blog for the AICE Media Studies Course. I am a big fan of sugar, spice, and everything nice, just kidding, I'm actually more of a sour guy. What I'm actually a fan of is movies and television and all other media, obviously, and that's what I'll be talking about in this blog. Some of my favorite pieces of media include: Shonen animes such as One Piece and Naruto along with western cartoons like Gravity Falls, Tom and Jerry, Batman: The Animated Series, Scooby-Doo, etc., movies such as the classic Universal monster movies, Star Wars, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, and most Batman movies. In fact, I am also a devoute fan of comics and manga as a medium and the stories told in them(DC, Marvel, One Piece, etc). Videogames I like include, once again, the Batman: Arkham series(noticing a pattern?) and Lego Batman games, as well as the Insomniac Spider-Man games and the Kingdom Hearts series. I am also a fan of FromSoftware games like Elden Ring and Bloodborne, along with some of the most popular games at the moment with Minecraft and Fortnite. Book wise, I like Sherlock Holmes stories and I want to get more into the mystery genre as a whole so I figured it was a good starting point, I am also a fan of the Percy Jackson series along with the rest of the stories from that universe. Media aside, here's some general information about me. My favorite color is red, I like Legos, I play guitar and make music, I'm a big fan of being lazy and doing nothing, my favorite genre of music is rock (from the 90s in particular), and I like the gothic/noir aesthetics. That's all, see you soon.
